Using Cancer Registry Data
Published Sources of Cancer Statistics
If you are looking for statistical information about cancer, it may already be available in the public domain. NYCRIS publishes regular regional reports and reference data and works closely with regional partner organisations, in contributing to the wider public health intelligence community. NYCRIS also routinely contributes data to various national and international aggregated datasets. Data sources using NYCRIS data can be downloaded from a variety of sources (see external links for a more extensive list)
- ONS - England incidence, mortality and survival (ONS virtual bookshelf, Health and Care section)
- Cancer Research UK - UK summary statistics
- National Cancer Intelligence Network - UK summary reports, Cancer e-Atlas and National CIS (requires NHSnet)
Ad hoc Information Service
If you are unable to find the information you require from the published sources above, or require more specific cancer information on a regional basis, it is also possible to request ad hoc information from NYCRIS (see below) or from any of the other UK Cancer Registries. Aggregated epidemiological information, which includes incidence, mortality and survival rates, can be requested (FOC) by:
- NHS organisations, clinicans and other health professionals
- Academics and clinical/epidemiological researchers
- Students and the general public
NYCRIS receives approximately 350 requests per year, with a wide range of size and complexity. We aim to answer ad hoc requests for information within 20 working days, but will always strive to meet reasonable individual deadlines, depending on resources available. We will contact you if there are any issues regarding timescale, availablility of data, release of small numbers etc.
How to apply for data from NYCRIS
To request information please use the online contact form or telephone the Information and Analysis Team on 0113 206 8846 to discuss your requirements. If you write to us, please remember to include full contact details, in case we need to discuss your request further with you.
Data for Reseach studies
If you require a data extract for a specific study, which may include potentially identifable information (at patient, clinician or hospital level), please complete this UKACR Information Request Form. It can be edited in Microsoft Word, then saved and printed out for signatures. Please send to our mailing address, along with any relevant study documentation (protocol, evidence of PIAG approval etc), as appropriate.
Guidelines for release of data
Please see our summary Data Disclosure Policy and Release of Clinician and Hospital Identifiable Data held by NYCRIS. Additional policy information can be found on the UKACR website. If you want to include NYCRIS data in any published reports, please follow our data release guidelines, reference NYCRIS as the source and if possible send us a copy or extract.
